As leader of BKF’s Intellectual Property Group, counseling clients about and securing and maintaining federal trademark and copyright protections. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating intellectual property related license and assignment agreements.
Advising and representing privately owned companies in a variety of business and transactional matters including: entity formation and ownership structure; business succession planning; buying and selling of businesses; drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements; corporate governance; equity and debt financings; pre-litigation disputes; dissolution; and employment matters including employee termination, discrimination, maternity leave laws, wage disputes, harassment, and personnel policies and procedures.
Advising and representing clients in real estate transactions including commercial lease negotiations, property transfers, and tax-deferred exchanges.
Counseling clients on how to preserve and protect their assets and preparing appropriate estate planning and trust documents to meet their needs. Abbey’s licensure in Nevada as well as California enables her to take advantage of Nevada’s favorable trust laws including domestic asset protection trusts. Advising and representing clients in probate and trust disputes, and trust administrations.
Secured federal trademark registrations for several restaurant concepts for well-known Las Vegas restauranteur.
Formation and subsequent sale of technology company for $8 million.
Advised national insurance agency on regulatory issues including specific marketing initiatives and rebates.
Revised and negotiated lease for prominent local developer valued at roughly $1 million over the term of the lease.

Abbey taught the estate planning, trust and probate segment of the Civil Practicum at USD Law as an adjunct faculty member. Prior to joining BKF, Abbey clerked for the Honorable Bruce S. Jenkins at the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah. Abbey spent 6 years serving as a professional fundraiser and law school administrator for the University of San Diego School of Law.
Abbey is married to Carson City native Tyson Stephenson and is the proud mother of Cooper and Madeline. She rides her bike to work and in her free time, she likes to get outside as much as possible and spend time with friends and family.
