Steven M. Silva focuses his practice on problem solving. Steve regularly practices in civil litigation including eminent domain, real estate litigation, and contested probate litigation, with a heavy emphasis in appellate litigation, trial practice, governmental interface, and law and motion. He has a strong alternative dispute resolution focus in disputed cases. Steve also provides advise and guidance to government entities, regulated entities, and businesses.
Advising and representing clients in all phases of civil litigation matters, including, eminent domain, inverse condemnation, precondemnation damages claims, breach of contract, real estate, fraud, negligence, and tort cases.
Advising and representing clients and attorneys in all stages of appellate practice, including handling appeals from start to finish, but also providing targeted consulting services to assist attorneys in drafting appellate briefs and preparing for appearances before the Supreme Court of Nevada.
Advising and assisting clients and attorneys in preserving trial issues for appeal, including providing advice on or participating in the drafting of motions in limine, dispositive motions, jury instructions, judgments, and post-trial motions, including motions for a new trial.
Advise, assist, and represent clients in alternate dispute resolution processes, including arbitration, mediation, and pre-litigation negotiation.
Preparing and filing amicus briefs.
Drafting extraordinary writ petitions.
Advise clients on real estate transactions and issues concerning water law.
Represented public entity in mediation and arbitration over valuation of exercise of purchase option of multiple-building campus where range of value was $167M to $305M.
First chair as trial counsel in jury trial to acquire property for public improvement project.
Drafted successful petition for writ of mandamus to Nevada Supreme Court to determine number of properties at issues in an eminent domain action.
Represented public entity in appellate court in action concerning public liability arising from the planning of a public improvement project.
Represented utility company in contested transfer of abandoned facilities to underlying landowner.
Serves as general counsel for small water company.

Prior to joining Blanchard, Krasner & French, Steve worked at Fennemore Craig, P.C., an Am Law 200 firm based in Phoenix, AZ. Before that he worked at Chapman Law Firm, a Nevada eminent domain boutique. He previously served as a staff attorney for the Nevada Supreme Court, and was a law clerk for the Hon. Patrick Flanagan of the Second Judicial District Court, Washoe County. While in law school he served as a judicial extern for the Hon. John A. Houston, of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. Multiple years spent at various courts give Steve a deep perspective on the judiciary.
Steve is an avid fencer and plays drums.
